Last November 15, 2025, the POVEDA Gymnasium was alive with students, parents, teachers, and members of the POVEDA community, all coming together to learn, reflect, and discuss the West Philippine Sea. The event is in partnership with the National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea (NYMWPS) and the High School Philippine History Movement (HSPHM).
The Honorable Justice Antonio Carpio opened the program by sharing historical maps and legal evidence showing Panacot, Bajo de Masinloc, now Scarborough Shoal, and how it has been part of our history for centuries.
Retired Rear Admiral Rommel Jude Ong then shared his experiences and insights on how China’s actions affect the region and how the AFP responds to protect our waters. His talk gave everyone a clearer understanding of the challenges our country faces in the West Philippine Sea.
Alphonse Vita from the National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea (NYMWPS) capped the program by sharing inspiring stories about the youth’s role in advocacy and defending our nation’s rights
The event wrapped up with an engaging panel discussion, where Justice Carpio, Admiral Ong, and Vita answered questions from students and participants. It was a meaningful day that reminded everyone; students, educators, and families alike, that protecting our country’s heritage and sovereignty is a shared responsibility.
