“Heart, head, and mind for the betterment of the country.”—How can we bridge the gap between the promises and realities of our society?

On October 9, 2025, former DSWD Secretary Dr. Judy Taguiwalo shared her wonderful expertise on social work with our fellow Grade 12 Hermanas from the HUMSS Strand.

The students learned about social work from the perspective of a social worker, gaining insight on Dr. Taguiwalo’s own journey in the profession, along with the current ongoing issues that the Philippines is facing in the industry.

Reconciling between the perceived and the reality of social workers in the Philippines, they were inspired to reflect on the role of social workers and their own contribution to social work on a deeper level. This led them to understand how social work as a social justice will pave the way for fostering a community for all, which empowers and promotes our collective responsibility to pursue social change, development, harmony, and liberation.
