What a brilliant way to celebrate the Hearts' Day with loved ones! This is just what happened to the kinder 2 girls with their daddies in an event called, “Camping Out With Dad”. Last February 18 and 19, the kinder 2 students spent their whole afternoon bonding with their dads in complete camping attire.
Everything was set for the said occasion. Teachers and the hardworking maintenance staff worked together to make this bonding very special. The field was surrounded by tents, a bonfire ready to be lit, and a stage especially built for the children's song and dance performances.
The four advisers had mixed emotions. They were certain that the students were very much prepared although what's keeping them a bit worried was the unexpected threat of rain. They, in fact, offered prayers before and during the camping days to make sure weather cooperates. True enough, day 1 went smooth. In fact, the cloudy weather helped keep the girls and their dads from perspiring too much.
The parade of the colored team tribes officially started the camping event. Once settled in the field, the Amazing Race Daddy-Daughter edition followed. This part was hosted by Teacher Marian who challenged the dads' intellect and agility in implementing the mechanics of the race.
It was indeed an amazing sight seeing the daddies seriously wanting to win. In their unique ways, they had their own techniques to be able to finish first. The last segment of the race was a challenge when the daddies needed to safely and quickly travel in pairs crossing to the finish line. The catch was, they could only cross stepping on two heavy planks with their daughters crossing with them.
The team that finished ahead used a technique wherein daddies carried the daughters behind their backs so it was more convenient dragging the heavy planks towards the finish line. Teachers were nervously there for back-up. They constantly reminded the students to hold tight to their dads' necks.
After the race, daddies rested in their respective tents while the girls settled in colored groups and sat on the mats facing the stage. The most-awaited Music Fest followed shortly and mommies started arriving bringing their picnic food for sharing. While waiting for the other invited guests: students' siblings and relatives, the guardians and other adults helped out set the bonfire and grills in preparation for the picnic.
Six colored tribes sang and danced their hearts out in their beautiful performances.
The girls' most-awaited part was their surprise number when all the colored groups merged and performed High School Musical's song entitled, “Music and Me”.
The girls knew later on that the program did not end with their song and dance number. It was the daddies' turn to surprise the mommies with a classic OPM song entitled, “Tunay na Ligaya”. The Music Fest finally ended with the dads serenading the moms with a romantic rendition of the song. All the girls (students and teachers alike) literally felt “love in the air” especially at the last part when daddies went down the stage. Stemmed red roses were handed over to the mommies while they matched it with a kiss as a show of their love and appreciation.
If there was one unforgettable scene in the camping, that would be the afternoon session's surprise number of the dads to moms. A beautiful rainbow appeared on the event and as the dads began singing... there came an outpour of raindrops! This did not prevent the dads from singing their hearts out as the moms joyfully cheered them on until the very end of their song. The children were immediately vacated from the field so it was just the moms and dads left under the rain. How romantic!
To sum it all up, I raise my two thumbs for a very successful Camping Out With Dad for school year 2008-2009. The best reward for the parents and teachers was the reassurance that the students really had the greatest time bonding with their dads. This event is an irreplaceable experience that definitely made the girls' post-valentines day celebration truly memorable! Cheers to the daddies for spending their time with their daughters and for being so cooperative!
Thank you very much dear daddies... your utmost love and participation contributed to the camping's success.
