My groupmates were very pleasant people. Their names were Liz, Eula, Cham, Rose and Leah. We were a great team because Liz, who was 30 and the eldest, was a very “take charge” kind of person and Eula was very agreeable and fun.  Leah was 26 and she was very religious and kind.  Cham was 16 and she was very, very intellectual and supportive of our ideas and Rose was my age and she was the  most soft-spoken but in some way she balanced out our group. During the slogan making, my groupmates praised me a lot for this. They called me “cute” because I drew stars as bullet points and I drew pictures, and “smart” because I came up with really great ideas. I have never felt so appreciated!

It was a different experience for all of us, as we were divided into different teams of 4 to 6 during the majority of the time. We were able to bond with different people from all walks of life, from different organizations, namely the Youth for Christ organization, Couples for Christ, and so many more. I think it was a great experience because we were forced out of our comfort zones and proceeded to befriend people whom we haven’t met before. At first, it was a bit awkward and frightening at the same time. But in the end it was fun. Slowly we found ourselves talking to each other about lots of things. and sharing things about each of our organizations. We helped each other get closer to God and by teaching each other things about the mass and how to be more devoted to God. We also learned about their different organizations which were good because it made us know and appreciate our own organization all the more.

On my way to Don Bosco Makati, I was very excited and glad to have been invited to such an event like the YAsia Fiesta. I was told that the World Youth Day experience was something that one could never forget and once I was there, I already knew that it would be so.  From the lively people in the room to the enjoyable song being played in the background, the whole event was already starting off better than I expected!

After this activity I had to go home early but though I left before the specified time, I learned a lot.  I know now that we, the youth, have a voice in our country. We can do something about the bad things happening around us. It’s wrong to just sit here and watch everything right in front of our eyes just fall apart by not doing anything.  After this experience, I will do something, not alone, not just with my fellow youth, but always with God by my side because without Him, I am nothing.

One particular experience I had while undergoing this activity happened during our afternoon session.  A question was flashed and we had to share it with a partner.  My partner’s name was Mikee and she was sixteen years old. The question was, “ What was the most important meal you’ve ever had?”. It so happens that her dad died a year ago and the most important meal she’s ever hadwas the last New Year’s eve her dad was still with her.  It was a touching story and it made me grateful that my family is still complete and all my family members are still alive and well.  Mikee ended up sharing our answers to the question in front of the whole community. It was a new experience for me too because I don’t normally share things in class.
