We, who desire to live a deep spiritual life must be simple, humble; we should be unnoticed, we should be like the other common people, but interiorly we must be unique ….. with the uniqueness of Christ.”
St. Pedro Poveda

Personalized Education Program

Since its beginnings in 1960, Saint Pedro Poveda College has offered the Personlized Education Program (PEP), an open approach that is coherent with St. Pedro Poveda's foundational vision and is relevant to the 21st century Philippine context. Its principal concern is the person in all its totality and complexity. It employs the process of building the person of the student to enable him to live a truly human life. The approach motivates the learner to function to the fullest and to be involved in the learning process through a highly personalized focus. Each student is given the opportunity to develop and to accomplish objectives at a pace suited to individual ability and to the characteristics of his person, thus enabling him to LEARN TO BE.

This educative style fosters dominion not only over reality but above all else, over one's self through formation and development of faith, culture and technology. The goal is to help each student attain his fullest potential, focusing on maximum development as a fully functioning and integrated individual.

Among the principles on which the Personalized Education Program operates are the following:

  • Principle of INDIVIDUALITY: development of what is individual, singular and unique in a person; LEARNING TO BE
  • Principle of OPENNESS or SOCIALIZATION and COMMUNICATION: formation of the individual as a member of society; LEARNING TO LIVE TOGETHER
  • Principle of CREATIVITY: stimulating and fostering the individual's capacity to freely express and develop his/her creative powers; LEARNING TO DO

The program subscribes to the idea that learning is more effective if it stems from the initiative and interests of the learner in a free, supportive and non-threatening environment. In this climate, the learner is encouraged to discover and maximize his/her potentials and consequently develop self-confidence and positive self-concept.

The Program Features include:

  1. Individual Work Periods (IW) - students learn new concepts either individually or in a group through the use of learning tools. IW enables the students to be active agents of their own learning process. It is a process of learning to know.
  2. Encounter Periods - are class meetings usually held after Individual Work Period. In these class encounters, the students share their learnings during the time set aside for independent study guided by the subject teacher.
  3. Evaluation sessions - regularly, students assess their performance and determine where they stand in the continuum of learning. Teachers of each level gather to assess the growth and development of each student.

In the Personalized Education Program, the integral formation of a Christian personality is highlighted. It seeks to develop an integration of faith and life among the students. Religious and spiritual dimensions permeate the education process. To strengthen their spiritual and religious growth, concrete experiences of Church life are available to all students through Eucharistic/sacramental celebrations, involvement in local or universal Church projects and activities.

The Social Action Program of the College, likewise, molds the students' social sensitivity and responsibility through varied projects and activities. They are guided in forming judgments and making decisions based on Christian tenets.

Exceptional Academics/Curriculum

Whole Brain Literacy and Systems Thinking

Whole Brain Literacy helps students fully appreciate and understand one’s intellectual capital and capability to process human information from within and around human social systems. It utilizes information, knowledge, and understanding in order to manage effectively, ethically and excellently in complex and changing times. These “human information processing” skills are critical to leadership and managerial learning, problem –solving and decision making.

Systems Thinking allows students to see the whole more than the sum of its parts. It is a way of thinking and a language for describing and understanding the forces and interrelationships that change systems more effectively. It enables a person to act more in tune with the larger processes of the natural and economic world.

Immediate Classroom Exposure

Aside from excellent learning, thinking and organizational theories, we equip our students with hands on training and experience by immediately exposing them to actual classroom situations.

The College roster of full-time faculty are all either Doctorate or Masters degree holders – all sharing a passion to help students be all they can be, and make a career out of teaching and business.
